Business Education Committee

The Wayne County Chamber of Commerce's Business Education Committee plays a pivotal role in advancing workforce development throughout the region. As the Chamber’s primary resource for workforce and career readiness initiatives, the committee focuses on aligning local educational opportunities with the needs of employers in Wayne County. From high school career exploration to adult education programs, the committee works tirelessly to bridge gaps and enhance the educational experience for residents of all ages.

Comprehensive Workforce Development Programs in Wayne County

The Business Education Committee continues to drive impactful workforce development programs that prepare local students and adults for successful careers. The committee’s initiatives focus on high school students, recent graduates, and those looking to enter or re-enter the workforce. Key programs include:
  • Career Exploration Fair: A hands-on event where high school students interact with local employers to explore diverse career paths. This event helps students gain valuable insights into industries, job roles, and educational requirements.
  • Annual Hiring Fair for Graduating Seniors: This event is designed to connect graduating seniors with local employers who are hiring. Students without post-secondary plans get the opportunity to interview with a variety of businesses, helping them secure career opportunities after graduation.
  • County-Wide Signing Day: Students who are hired at the Hiring Fair are celebrated during Wayne County's Signing Day, where they publicly commit to building their careers in the region, showcasing their workforce development skills and future potential.

Every Day Counts Program: Promoting Good Attendance for K-12 Students

The Business Education Committee proudly supports the Every Day Counts program, an initiative designed to promote consistent school attendance for K-12 students in Wayne County. This program encourages students to commit to maintaining good attendance throughout the school year. By pledging to attend school regularly and meeting attendance requirements, students have the opportunity to win exciting prizes as a reward for their dedication.
The Every Day Counts program aims to instill the importance of regular school attendance, which is directly linked to improved academic performance and overall success. By participating in this initiative, students learn valuable lessons about responsibility, commitment, and the positive impact of good habits on their education.
Committee Chair: Christy Tollett
The Business Education Committee meets on the 1st Wednesday of each month at 8:30 am
