Richard and Eric have spent hour upon hour spraying and trimming weeds, picking up trash and mowing areas in order to make Wayne County a more attractive and welcoming community. Then, they advocated with the Chamber and our elected officials to identify a long-term solution to the problem of weeds. Recently, the Richmond City Council members approved a budget allocating additional dollars to the Parks Department to maintain National Road and NW 5th Street beginning in 2022.
The Chamber was pleased to play a small role through our 501(c)3 organization – the Chamber Center for Excellence – collecting donations from several members and the EDC and Tourism to hire this work to be completed heading into this fall season. We are happy to report that these areas are now weed free! None of this would have happened without Richard and Eric. Thank you both for your incredible work! |

Richmond Parks & Recreation takes pride in being one of 3 farmers markets in Indiana that is year-round. The need for a larger indoor space and walkability to the market led to the repurposing and rehabilitation of the Starr Gennett Building in Gorge Park.
Partners on the project include Primex Fabrication and Design, who not only designed temporary windows for the building, but also were able to get the 160’ photo mural of the history of the Starr-Gennett company printed for free. Additional partnerships include Hometown Propane & Fuel Oil with a in-kind tank drop, and Whitewaterwater Broadcasting with in-kind promotion for the Winter Farmers Market. The enhancement of the space brings a unique opportunity and focus to the Winter Market. It is a unique space that can be used for a variety of events and activities. |
Fastenal is many things to many different customers: an expert consultant, a logistics company, a technology provider, and more generally, a distributor of wide-ranging industrial and construction products. Their service model centers on approximately 3,200 locations. One of those locations is an impressive newly constructed building on NW 5th Street in Richmond.
Thor Construction was selected as the contractor for the new 60'x120' building. Fastenal now has more space and a more convenient location to serve customers. |
Health Care Professionals Federal Credit Union on Williamsburg Pike had a major facelift in the past year and the new exterior looks phenomenal. Whisenhunt Construction took on this project, while Faust Landscaping provided an upgraded landscaping look to the remodeled building.
Work on the Credit Union building included: replacing rotted wooden window coverings, constructing 2 new dormer style porch entrances with columns on either side, and constructing a feature wall. The interior of the building also received a remodel. Health Care Professionals Federal Credit Union first opened its doors in1975, specifically to serve Reid Health employees. It has since expanded their services to any health care employee in the community, as well as their family. |
Just a year ago, Hot Head Burritos shared a building with the former Family Video on the West Side of Richmond. After just 4 months of construction, which began in December 2020, they opened their doors as a brand-new, stand-alone location just off of Chester Boulevard in March of this year.
What an enhancement this building is to what was an empty lot located on a major thoroughfare through Richmond! Smarrelli General Contractor has done an incredible job building a new restaurant location that stands out. The bright colors and fun logo catch the eye as you drive by. The convenient location at 1006 Chester Boulevard makes it an easy stop for lunch or dinner. |
The Reid Health KinderCare facility was specifically designed to meet the needs of the Richmond area population, and more specifically, Reid Health employee child-care needs. With a significant need for quality childcare in our county, Reid is meeting the needs of not only their employees, but also the needs of other families in the area. Families enrolling their children in Reid Health KinderCare, has a ripple effect out to other childcare locations, creating openings at those locations for families.
$3.5 million dollars was invested in this previously undeveloped site to build a child-safe care facility. The materials used are warm and traditional to create a sense of comfort, familiarity, and home for the children while they are there. Some aesthetics of Reid Health facilities are reflected in this new childcare location. Furthermore, the landscape treatment from the main Reid campus extends to this site. Children love their outside time on the large play area developed to KinderCare standards, and includes colors that blend well with the outdoors. Shook Construction was the contractor on this project designed by Robert J. Harmeyer and architect MSKTD & Associates, Inc. |
With a student population of over 1,300 enrolled and a designation as an A School System in Indiana, Northeastern Wayne Schools shows their Knight pride in the northern part of Wayne County. The school district previously had their administration building located in the middle of Fountain City, a few miles away from where their K-12 buildings are located. With a desire to maintain a footprint on campus with the majority of the educational facilities, the school corporation began construction on a new administration building in the summer of 2020. The $950,000 project, completed in December 2020 was named the Student Services Center.
Since opening, the center has proven to be a place where Northeastern can host other school districts, community members, and business partners in a space that is conducive for teaching and learning. Designer and architect Stair Associates, Inc. designed a building that features masonry designed to flow naturally into the aesthetic of the rest of Northeastern’s campus. Whisenhunt Construction served as the contractor, builder and landscape designer on the project. |
The history of the lot at the intersection of Boston Pike and Straightline Pike includes what was originally a gas station with 2 service bays added on later. Years later, a 5 bay service building behind the gas station was built to accommodate the service work. In recent years, the building has deteriorated and been in need of repair.
Dan Stamper with Thor Construction and Carroll Electric purchased the building and lot with a vision to restore it and make it usable again. Investing $150,000 into the property became a total re-construction. The work completed included: masonry work, re-roofing; blue tinted windows, complete painting of the exterior, new overhead doors, installed landscaping beds, and new concrete entrances. Now named “The Point”, 2001 Boston Pike makes a positive impact on those who drive by. |
For far too long, if you had a craving for Red Front’s pizza, it required a quick trip across the state line over to New Paris. With a desire to reach further into the Richmond and Wayne County market, Red Front opened their new location in late 2020.
This new location includes more seating, a state-of-the-art kitchen and walk-up window, an outdoor patio, and a private room for large group events. All the construction was completed with local contractors during the 2020 pandemic. To celebrate their opening in the Hoosier state, Red Front opened their doors for a private party for our first responders before anyone else got to see or taste the new restaurant. Now Hoosiers can enjoy one of their favorite pizza place, right here in Richmond. |
When K-Mart closed their doors on the west side of Richmond, many wondered what would happen with the building. U-Haul Moving & Storage of Richmond has turned an empty building into a very impressive storage facility and showroom.
The $475,000 project included the construction of storage units, an interior sales showroom and a D&R bay used for hitch installation and cleaning rental equipment. The outside façade definitely catches your eye as you drive by on highway 40. The next time you drive by, be sure to look for the security officer peeking out a window. |
