Story by Chamber Intern Lindsey McClain Family owned and family operated Bismarck Donuts & Coffee is a local business that goes the extra mile for its patrons. They boast a 0 complaint customer record for their delicious dine-in and carry-out treats. The store, located at 1241 NW 5th St. in Richmond, is fragrant with the smell of cinnamon, vanilla, and chocolatey sweets made fresh every single day. Customers are delighted to find a variety of donuts and pastries lining their cases. With colorful fruity pebble donuts, gooey cinnamon rolls, jelly and cream filled sweets, and hearty breakfast options, Bismarck has a menu that satisfies and excites. The owners and staff take immense pride in their work and spend long hours night until morning handcrafting these tasty treats. All donuts are handcrafted, hand iced, and made in house. Customer favorites include their large apple fritters, and plain glazed and sour cream donuts. Employee favorites consist of the blueberry cake donuts and the chocolate long johns. The bakery staff works from 7pm to 3am preparing the pastries for the next morning–and it's not just donuts. This sweet store offers more than your typical donut shop, supplying classic and unique donut flavors, but also an array of handmade and hand iced cookies as well as a full breakfast menu. Store cookies are hand decorated and specialized for upcoming holidays and events. Sheryl Taylor, operational manager at Bismarck, says the breakfast menu, including breakfast sandwiches, biscuits and gravy, bacon, and sausage rolls, is one of her personal favorites offered.
Bismarck works hard to keep their customers engaged and bring in new faces. They pride themselves on their involvement in the community and their place on the Wayne County Tourism Bureau’s Chocolate Trail; Participants of this event will receive a free chocolate donut for supporting local businesses. Bismarck remains involved on social media, posting on national food holidays and spreading information about upcoming events and promotions. They’re excited to share their upcoming Easter Bunny event for children, as their event with Santa during the holidays was a true success. Coming up in February will be their specialty Valentine’s day cookies and treats, and then their specialty cookies for St. Patrick's Day in March. The Bismarck Donuts of Richmond has become a local gem. With its opening just around 3 years ago, Bismarck has kept their customers happy and their business thriving. Owners Kim Lim and Veng Ngov are passionate about keeping their store running smoothly. Their commitment to success shines through in their work ethic by assisting with selling the donuts, cleaning the store, and supporting their team whenever necessary. Employees describe Bismarck as a “true family business” and “true family work environment”. It’s no wonder production manager Sheryl Taylor says, “I want to stay here until I retire.” Bismarck Donuts & Coffee has thrived offering handcrafted sweets and friendly service. More than half of their customer base consists of regulars. This is why they pride themselves so heavily on customer satisfaction, stating that if a mistake is made it’s guaranteed to be addressed and corrected. All of this contributes to their top notch customer service and thriving business. It’s no wonder Sheryl Taylor says, “We probably know 80% of our customers by name.” Their pride in satisfaction transfers to their pride in being a small business. They are non-competitive meaning they support other small businesses and just like themselves root for the success of others. Priding themselves on their involvement in the community and in the happiness of their customers is what this small business is all about. Connect with Bismarck: Open: Tues-Sun 5am-1pm
