Community Mourns RPD Officer Seara Burton

Our community is mourning the loss of one of our local heroes. Officer Seara Burton gave the ultimate sacrifice and was killed in the line of duty in our hometown. For years, we have watched this happen to many other communities, and now we are the community facing this tragedy. It is surreal to experience this heartbreak in our rural Indiana home.

As we move through the coming days and week, we can reflect on what Seara’s story has helped our small community realize. Together, we are one.  

We have come together in Officer Burton’s honor. We have watched thousands of dollars be raised, yard signs made and planted, banners hung high on our tallest buildings, and prayers sent from every corner of the world.

We, as the community, will continue to support and love Seara’s family, our Richmond Police Department, and others involved in this tragedy. We will harness the strength Seara willingly demonstrated to guide us through this emotional time and give our officers courage to face the coming days. As other communities around the world watch from a distance, let’s commit to shining with unity and grace.

In addition to our military veterans, take time to thank a police officer, Sherriff’s deputy, or first responder for their continuous protection over our city.  They choose to serve through their grief.  They choose to put their lives in danger for our safety.  Let’s take time to say an extra prayer for theirs.
